The next meeting of the Compost Rule Re-Adoption Working Group will be Sept 6th from 1:30 to 3:30 in the GreenSquare 1st Floor Training Room, 217 W Jones St, Raleigh, NC. A call-in number has been reserved for anyone cannot attend in person: 919-733-2416.
During this process we are seeking to identify potential impacts of any proposed rule changes to the composting and organics material management industry in North Carolina. Topics for discussion include (but are not limited to):
- YW Notifications
- Size Limits/volume
- Mulching/grinding
- Training Requirements
- Odor Management
- Vermicomposting
- Small size exemption
- Anaerobic Digestion
- Exemptions from permitting process
- Onsite Demonstrations at Schools
- Community Gardens
- Onsite composting (under XX size limit)
- In the event of a declared emergency (especially animal mortality)
- Farm exemptions .1402(g)(2) clarify
- Compost Testing Requirements
- Amendments/Added inerts
The goal is to have monthly meetings through the end of the year. Tentative dates will be shared during the meeting. The locations of the meetings will not necessarily be in Raleigh.
If participating in these meetings is not for you, don’t worry; you will have many other opportunities to give feedback and provide comments during this process. The rules re-adoption process will be lengthy.
