SUMMARY:NCDEQ Compost Rule Re-Adoption Working Group
DESCRIPTION:The next meeting of the Compost Rule Re-Adoption Working Group will be Sept 6th from 1:30 to 3:30 in the GreenSquare 1st Floor Training Room\, 217 W Jones St\, Raleigh\, NC.  A call-in number has been reserved for anyone cannot attend in person: 919-733-2416. \nDuring this process we are seeking to identify potential impacts of any proposed rule changes to the composting and organics material management industry in North Carolina.  Topics for discussion include (but are not limited to): \n\nYW Notifications\n\nSize Limits/volume\nMulching/grinding\n\n\nTraining Requirements\nOdor Management\nVermicomposting\n\nSmall size exemption\n\n\nAnaerobic Digestion\nExemptions from permitting process\n\nOnsite Demonstrations at Schools\nCommunity Gardens\nOnsite composting (under XX size limit)\nIn the event of a declared emergency (especially animal mortality)\nFarm exemptions .1402(g)(2) clarify\n\n\n Compost Testing Requirements\nAmendments/Added inerts\n\nThe goal is to have monthly meetings through the end of the year.  Tentative dates will be shared during the meeting.  The locations of the meetings will not necessarily be in Raleigh. \nIf participating in these meetings is not for you\, don’t worry; you will have many other opportunities to give feedback and provide comments during this process.  The rules re-adoption process will be lengthy. \nBecause I will be away from the office next week\, questions can be directed to Perry Sugg at (919) 707.8258 or perry.sugg@ncdenr.gov or any of the other DEQ staff on this email. \n  \nShawn McKee\nEnvironmental Senior Specialist\nNC Department Environmental Quality\nDivision of Waste Management – Solid Waste Section\n1646 Mail Service Center\nRaleigh\, NC 27699-1646\n919-707-8284 phone & fax\n919-628-7343 mobile\nshawn.mckee@ncdenr.gov \n  \n
