NC Composting Council’s Earth Month Schedule: 2024

April 6, 12-5pm: Cary Arbor Day

Celebrate trees, forests, and nature on Cary’s Town Hall Campus for Arbor Day, April 6th. Enjoy free tree seedlings while supplies last at the Ask an Arborist booth. Live music, food trucks, and free children’s activities make this a fun event for the whole family. Along with Cary sustainability staff, guests can engage with many environmental experts, including the NC Composting Council!

April 10, 8-9am: Carolina Recycling Association Conference –

Coffee and Compost with the Council in Cherokee, NC

Join NCCC at the Carolina Recycling Assocation’s 34th Trade Show and Conference on Wednesday April 10th from Coffee and Compost with the Council from 8-9am in room 105. Meet the chapter leaders of the NC Composting Council, learn about available resources, our recent USCC award, current activities, future plans, and how to get involved. The mission of the Carolina Recycling Association (CRA) is to conserve resources by advancing recycling and waste reduction throughout the Carolinas– and NC Composting Council is a proud partner of the CRA.

April 19th, 5-10pm: Raleigh Earth Day Celebration & Movie in the Park

Come to Dix Park to celebrate Earth Day on April 19th to enjoy live music, games, and activities for all ages. Solid Waste Services will be hosting a shredding event if you have any old documents you want to get rid of. Learn about what the City of Raleigh and Community Partners are doing to create a more sustainable Raleigh, and as the sun goes down, watch the Lorax on the big screen! Read more here

April 20th: Earth Day!!

Downtown Hendersonville, NC 

The purpose of the Hendo Earth Fest is to promote community education for all ages on environmental and sustainable practices, inspire action, and renew and expand commitments to protect our planet. Local and regional environmental allies focus on participation/hands-on activities and demonstrations designed to educate, renew and expand action to protect our Western North Carolina environment and natural resources. In our first inaugural 2023 festival, we saw approximately 2,000+ participants! Learn more.

Downtown Salisbury, NC 

Earth Day Jam” is a unique farm-to-festival benefit concert dedicated to supporting the nonprofit Happy Roots in its mission to fund school and community garden projects. The event will be headlined by Grammy-nominated Devon Gilfillian. Read more. 

Downtown Wake Forest, NC 

Join us along Festival Street (Owen Avenue) and Brooks Street (including Centennial Plaza and Town Hall Parking Lot) in downtown Wake Forest on Saturday, April 20th, for the 3rd Annual Forest Fest. 

Presented by Wake Forest Downtown, Inc. in partnership with the Town of Wake Forest, Wake Forest Guild of Artists, the Wake Forest Historical Museum, the Wake Forest Farmer’s Market and the Wake Forest Historic 13.1. This fun-filled event will feature entertainment, the Wake Forest guild of Artists Spring Art Market, the Wake Forest Farmer’s Market, a tree seedling giveaway, educational opportunities, children’s activities, vendors, food options, and much more! 

Wilmington, NC- Long Leaf Park

Come learn about the environment and natural resources. There will be a kids eco-zone, live music, food & more. 

April 28th, 8-9am: Taste It, Don’t Waste It! in Asheville, NC

Food Waste Solutions WNC presents the 2024 Taste It, Don’t Waste It! Asheville Chef’s Challenge for their 3rd annual, signature Food Waste Reduction Month event on April 28th from 2-5pm. This fun twist on a cooking competition invites local chefs to prepare a dish from foods that might otherwise be thrown away. Be sure to find the NCCC, conveniently located nearby the tasting table!
