Scholarship Funded by the North Carolina Composting Council
The North Carolina Composting Council (NCCC) funds a bi-annual CCREF/NCCC Young Investigator Scholarship. This scholarship is for college students studying at a college or university in North Carolina and is for $4000 for 2019 and every other year with set parameters with further funding set aside to send the recipient to the upcoming (2020) USCC Conference. Winners of the Scholarship are asked to attend the conference and present a report about their project/experience to the NCCC Annual Members Meeting in 2020. Submission dates will be from mid-February through mid-April. The goal of this scholarship is to bring assistance and attention to emerging young professionals in the field of compost research and to spark interest in the future of the composting industry.
Gary Gittere, board president of NCCC, explained why the chapter decided to support this scholarship program working with CCREF. “The NC Composting Council is dedicated to the many benefits of education and is committed to providing continual support to our state universities and colleges. The NCCC will support the US Composting Council and its CCREF Young Investigator Scholarship program, by funding a $4000.00 scholarship for all North Carolina Colleges and Universities. We look forward to working with the 2019 recipient, helping him or her broaden the many benefits of composting and the use of compost as a soil amendment.”
