Farmers, foodies, researchers, educators, and activists are invited for a weekend celebration of innovation in local sustainable agriculture. Educational workshops and panels, inspiring talks, and bus tours by industry leaders are interspersed with social opportunities, exhibits, and regionally sourced meals. Attendees from more than a dozen states gather each November and leave energized, connected, and inspired for a new season ahead!
This is the only annual training in the world on commercial vermicomposting, this event provides the tools you need to start or expand an earthworm or vermicompost production operation.
Sustainable Spirits meet the mountains! Sustainable Spirits is a casual gathering for the sustainability community organized by the North Carolina Composting Council. Its purpose is to create a space for people to gather, meet each other, and engage in fun and meaningful conversations for an inclusive and regenerative future. It’s free, unstructured, and open to everyone interested in anything from renewable energy and civic engagement to green building, organic farming, and beyond!
This gathering is sponsored by Danny’s Dumpster, working for a waste free Western NC by enabling, educating and inspiring people to dispose of their waste responsibly through composting and recycling. Come and hear about what they are doing for the ground we walk on and the air we breath.

A celebration of sustainable farmers and the creativity of the Piedmont’s top chefs, brewers and artisans, creating and sharing delicious, healthy dishes made with locally grown sweet, hot and smoky NC peppers. All utensils and serving pieces in this event are totally compostable. This is a big celebration with a very small environmental footprint!

Each year more than 30,000 visitors come to BugFest to experience over 100 exhibits, crafts, games and activities. The museum provides the opportunity for you to interact with entomologists and other scientists so you can continue learning about the fascinating world of bugs. They also feature Café Insecta, where the brave can sample buggy dishes prepared by local chefs. The best part is, it’s all free!
